Grammy Awards Snubs Artists

Thursday, December 3, 2009

No surprise that Beyonce and Taylor Swift bagged the most nominations in the upcoming 52nd Grammy Awards with 10 and 8 nominations respectively. But the real buzz is with the artists who were snubbed by the Grammy Awards.

Starting off with Kanye West. Though still nominated in other categories, Kanye West's recent album “808s & Heartbreak” was not nominated for Album of the Year in which his first three albums were all nominated for. His smash hit “Heartless” which was covered by The Fray and Kris Allen, thus boosting its profile, was also passed over for Record of the Year. Looks like Kanye West’s impolite and hugely criticized gesture towards Taylor Swift during the Video Music Awards is somewhat taking a toll on the guy's eligibility for awards. Maybe manners do count even for a music award. Well, manners should always count for whatever it is in question.

Also snubbed by the Grammy Awards is comeback diva Whitney Houston who failed to get a nomination for Best R&B Album, “I Look To You”. Well, the once unchallenged woman-with-the-best-voice is nowhere near her prime now. Smoking, drinking and drugs greatly affected her voice making it more raspy and not as whole as it was before. She also seems to be always out of breath when singing nowadays. Her recovery from substance abuse is inspiring but her not being nominated is quite understandable. For all the young artists, learn from Whitney Houston.

Others who also failed to get nominated are Bruce Springsteen with his album Working on a Dream for Best Rock Album and Diana Krall with her album Quiet Nights for best Jazz Vocal Album.

The eccentric Lady Gaga got nominated for Album of the Year for "The Fame" and Song of the Year for "Poker Face" but is not nominated for Best New Artist as she was ruled ineligible for the said award due to her nomination during the previous Grammy Awards for Best Dance Recording with "Just Dance" which she won.

Last year's American Idol Winner, David Cook, was also surprisingly passed for Best New Artist.

Former Miss Argentina Dies After Plastic Surgery

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

38 year old Solange Magnano who is a former Miss Argentina sadly died over the weekend after experiencing complications from plastic surgery. Solange Magnano who thought that the operation was “no big deal” just wanted a slightly firmer behind.

This just shows that no matter how simple and uncomplicated some types of plastic surgery might seem or is marketed by doctors, it’s still surgery and is very dangerous.

Solange Magnano, who is also a runway model, is described by her peers as a woman who had everything and is now dead because of plastic surgery leaving behind her husband and eight year old twins in mourning.

The former Miss Argentina got plastic surgery in Buenos Aires Thursday and was rushed to the hospital on Friday for pulmonary embolism. She died on Sunday. It is speculated that the doctor who performed the procedure on the former Miss Argentina may not have been a real professional.

Today, there is a growing number of plastic surgery procedures performed in Argentina mainly due to the influx of foreigners seeking inexpensive cosmetic enhancements.

So before you go under the knife, think first if it’s really worth it. Personally, I don’t judge people if they had plastic surgery or not and I think a lot of people share the same view. It’s a personal decision. If you think it would make you feel better then it’s okay.

But is it worth taking the risk? If you think that it is, then take the necessary precautions. Check whether your doctor is certified and has ample experience. Don’t try to be cheap as your life is on the balance. After the procedure, be mindful of what you’re feeling and any unusual side effects. Ask friends to stay with you for a while so they could observe you too and help you go back to the hospital if needed.

Large Hadron Collider Helps Understand More About the Universe

Exciting news for scientists and science lovers around the world. We are now a step closer in understanding the behaviour of the universe as the world’s largest atom smasher, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), broke the world record for proton acceleration, ergo enabling researchers to smash particles into each other with enough force to shatter them into the smallest building blocks of matter.

Such setup which is 27 kilometres in size, physicists hope, will help man understand phenomena such as dark matter and antimatter which, if you saw the movie Angels and Demons, was what Robert Langdon was trying to save Vatican City from. But more importantly, such milestone will help us understand the creation of the universe billions of years ago. Experiments scheduled next year plan to recreate conditions like those 1 trillionth to 2 trillionths of a second after the Big Bang.

However, it may still take several years before, in theory, the Large Hadron Collider, a $10 billion project funded by 20 European member nations, can detect the elusive, still undetected, Higgs boson – the particle or field, get this, that is believed to give mass to other particles. Such discovery would prove one of the greatest in Physics.

Watch the video below to awe at the grand scale set-up of the Large Hadron Collider explained by “rock star physicist” Brian Cox.
