Naeem Khan Dresses 1st Lady Michelle Obama

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

During the Obama's Administration 1st state dinner with guests Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and wife, all eyes were on the regal 1st lady, Michelle Obama, as she dons a subtle gold flowing floor length gown by little known designer Naeem Khan.

Many gave compliments to the 1st Lady's shift in style as she usually go with more subdued, less polished, contemporary looks unlike this sophisticated and royal creation by Naeem Khan, who happens to be Indian as well. Such a subtle and yet interesting courteous gesture to pick an Indian designer during an event with Indian guests. It gives the message that the visit was indeed anticipated and given weight.

In addition, it's nice of the 1st Lady to stick with rising designers giving them chance to be internationally noticed and their works showcased. Before Naeem Khan, Jason Wu was the 1st Lady's designer whose Google search surged after his works were worn by the 1st Lady and got rave reviews.

Though designed by less known artists, these gowns don't come cheap. Good thing the 1st Lady don't pay for her gowns. She does, on the other hand, donate them to charity after. In a country where fashion can make or break a career and at the same time scrutinizes public figures for their lifestyles, Michelle Obama plays it really well.

What can you say about Michelle Obama?
